Tranaslation:
One who is not in transcendental consciousness(supreme radiant king) can have neither a controlled mind nor steady creative intelligence, without which there is no possibility of peace. And how can there be any happiness without peace? , Self controlled aggression,
The tendency of all living entities whose external senses along with the mind are not under control in the darkness of nescience indulge in sensual delights in this night. Contrarily the self controlled one sees the objects of the senses as unfit and reflects on the eternal soul within. Thus these are the indications of one situated in transcendent meditation. The Person who is wakeful is Muni and the person who is sleeping is a-muni.
There are two classes of intelligent men here .The one who is intelligent in material activities for sense gratification, and the other is introspective and awake to the cultivation of self-realization. Activities of the introspective sage, or thoughtful man, are like night for persons materially absorbed . They wont able to recognize him , Materialistic persons remain asleep in such a way that is night due to their ignorance of self-realization.They wont even know what they have to know or what they don't know, and that is sleeping state of mind. Now the introspective sage remains alert in the "night" of the materialistic men. The sage feels transcendental pleasure(see the reality of senses) in the gradual advancement of spiritual culture, whereas the man in materialistic activities, being asleep to self-realization, dreams of varieties of sense pleasure, feeling sometimes happy and sometimes distressed in his sleeping condition. The introspective man is always indifferent to materialistic happiness and distress. He goes on with his self-realization activities undisturbed by material reaction.
After reading the above verse one must have thought provoking in their mind and some basic questions should come to mind that What is it necessary to know the other intelligent person? and the person who is aware of his senseses, still called sleeping? and the other intelligent person to whom people don't recognize what is the use of knowing such thing , the one who is in the night for all the other people? so on... when there are lots of questions arise in the mind ..than he is in wakeful state...
So the first step in this
ReplyDeletepractice is to challenge that sense of who we think we are.
How do we do that? By questioning, by investigating: ‘Who
is it that is thinking inside this mind? Who is it that is suffering
in there? Who is it that conjures up this strange train of
thought?’
The natural pattern of the deluded mind is to think that
suffering happens outside of oneself – that there is something
or someone out there to blame: ‘The reason why I am upset
is...’ Each of us can fill in the blank with our own story; someone
or something outside of ourselves has hurt us, irritated us,
upset us. We come closer to the truth by recognising that
we’re upset, because our minds are generating random or
obsessive thoughts that can feel very disturbing. We do not
feel in control or in a state of equilibrium. So we attempt
to find order in our mind by changing or adapting to our
conditions. That’s part of being a social creature: we try to
‘fit in’.
