tamah, wasto, tumpak

When you study religious or spiritual teachings, there are different levels of truth. If you take the teachings literally... That is Tama. When you try to understand the inner teachings that is wasto, when you go to the deepest level that is tumpak.I( In philipines truth is divided into 3 stages lower tama, than wasto milldle and than higher Tumpak)
Many teachings are symbolic; if you are talking to a 3 year old , you will him stories , the people living thousands of years ago are like children today, Even though there were adults, their minds were like that of little children, the teachers could only teach their through stories.
There is an inner teaching and an outer teaching, the inner teaching is given to disciples who are mere intelligent and spiritually more mature. According to st Paul, to those who are more mature more will be revealed, it is the same in the Hindu tradition, to those who are spiritually more mature, more will be revealed.
In Christianity it is said “ Do not throw sacred teachings and practices to young souls who do not have the intellectual capacity to understand the spiritual teachings.
Dogs are nice animals, you can play with them and they will lick your face; they love, all you have to do is give them food and water, take them for a walk and they will be even more loving. They are not very expensive to look after and they do not  talk!
Dogs are nice!, but they are not very smart, you cannot teach them mathematics or how to use the internet.
What Lord Jesus meant was do not throw the sacred teachings to people who are not very smart, even though they are very loving, the though they are devotional and good, they cannot understand the higher teachings.
That is the qualities of a lot of people, they are nice, they have good hearts, but you cannot teach them much, People who are not sufficiently intelligent cannot be taught the inner teachings, you can teach them japa and bhajans you can teach them bhakti yoga. Through bhakti yoga they can evolve, but the inner teachings cannot be given them because they get confused.
There is also a saying “Do Not throw pearls to swine” it means do not throw pearls of wisdom, the pearls of priceless teachings to pigs.
What do pigs symbolize? Pigs bite, they can be violent, especially during mating season, swine or pings symbolize people with unregulated emotions or unregulated desires; they represent people who are enslaved by their lower nature. The lower nature consists of the instincts, the lower emotions and thoughts.
You cannot teach such people, the higher teachings, that are why you need purification and character building that is why the Rishis or avatars did not reveal the higher teachings to the public because they cannot understand them. The teachings cannot be given to them, so they are told stories instead.
When you look at the lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva, you must understand that you are only looking at a painting that symbolizes them. It is not really them; you have to go beyond the form. If a person cannot go beyond the form, the heart chakra will be activated but the crown chakra will not be activated. They have love for the figure or the form but not towards God. If you study the Indian deities, the teachings are contained in paintings.
Even when you chant bhajans for your Guru you have to chant in the proper way. Remember that you are chanting to the spiritual Guru, not the physical body of the Guru, you are chanting to the great spiritual soul that occupies the physical body of that Guru. The physical body is not the Guru. It is the great soul that occupies the physical body that is real Guru. When you understand this concept, Your bhajans will becomes powerful.
