CHAMPIONS OF LIFE ...WHAT THEY SAID - 4

Meditation

Those forms of concentration that bring extraordinary sense perceptions cause perseverance of the mind.(By the mediation on) the Effulgent. One which is beyond all sorrow;

Or(meditation on) the heart at that has given up all attachment to sense objects;

Or by meditating on the knowledge that comes in sleep;

Or by the meditation on any thing that appeals to one as good_

the Yogi's mind , thus meditation, becomes unobstructed from the atomic to the Infinite.........Patanjali Yoga

The Bodhisattva is said to have well grasped the teachings of the Tathagats when, all alone in a lonely place, by means of his Transcendental Intelligence, he walks the path leading to Nirvana. There on his mind will unfold by perceiving , thinking, meditating, and abiding in the practice of concentration, Until he attains the " Turning about"at the source of habit energy. He will there after lead a life of excellent deeds. His mind concentrated on the state of Buddahood, he will become thoroughly conversant with the noble truth of self realization;he will become perfect master of his own mind;he will be like gem radiating many color;he will be able to assume bodies of transformation;he will be able to enter into the minds of all to help them;and finally, by gradually ascending the stages he will become established in the perfect Transcendental Intelligence of of the Tatthagatas.....Lankavatara Sutra

There is, in sanest hours, a consciousness, a thought that rises, independent, lifted out from all else, calm- like the stars -shining, eternal. This is the thought of identity-yours for you,Whoever your are, as mine for me. Miracle of miracles, beyond statement, most spiritual and vaguest of earth's dreams, yet hardest basic fact, and only entrance to all facts...
I should say, indeed, that only in the perfect uncontamination and solitariness of individuality may the spirituality of region positively come forth at all. Only here, and on such terms, the meditation, the devout ecstasy, the soaring fight. Only here, communion which the mysteries, the eternal problems-Whence? whither?
Alone, and identity, and the mood- and the soul emerges, and all statements, churches, sermons melt away like vapors. Alone, and silent thought and awe, and aspiration and then the interior consciousness, like a hitter to unseen inscription in magic ink, beams out its wondrous lines to the sense, Bibles may convey and priest expound, but it is exclusively for the noiseless operation of one's isolated self to enter the pure either of variation , reach the divine levels, and commune with the unutterable.....Walt Whitman.

I have never had any revelations through anaesthetics, but a kind of waking trance-This for lack of a better word- I have frequently, had quite up from boyhood, when I have been all alone, This has come upon me through repeating my own name to myself, silently till all at once as it were, our of the intensity of of the consciousness of individuality, individuality itself seemed to dissolve and fade away in boundless being, and this not a confused state but the clearest, the surest of the surest, utterly beyond words-when death was an almost laughable impossibility-the loss of personalty(if so it were) seeming no extinction but the only true life.........Tennyson.
Now What most contribution to the growth of these wings(of the soul) is meditation, by which we learn little by little to wean our affection from earthly things, and to get a habit of contemplation the things that are immaterial and intelligible , and to shake off the pollutions it has contracted by its union with the terrestrial and mortal body. And, indeed, by these advantages it revives in some manner, it rouses up itself, it is filled with divine vigor and reunites itself to the Intelligent Perfection within. ...Hierocles.
