1. prem jagawai viraha ko, viraha jagawai piv; piv jagawai
jiw ko, vahi jiw vahi piw
प्रेम जगावै विरहा को , विरह जगावै पीव ;
पीव जगावे जीव को ,वही जीव वही पीव।
Love bestirs the
heart of the separated lover for God, and God responds by enlightening him. He
then realizes the soul and God are one
2. puja guru ki kijiye, sab puja jihi manhi; jab jal sinche
mul taru, sakha patra aghai
Worship your
spiritual master as it embodies all other worships; when you water the tree's
roots, the branches and leaves are quenched
3. parkho dwara shabda ka, jo guru kahai bichar; bina shabda
kachhu na milai, dekho nain ughar
Examine the purpose
of the Word thoughtfully imparted by your master; with open eyes realize
nothing can be gained without the word
4. nam milawai rup ko, jo jan khoji hoi; jab waha rup hridai
base, kshuddha rahe na koi
Whoever seeks, finds
that God is known through His Name; when that form of God(Name) is in the
heart, no other hunger remains
5. kariye nit satsang ko, badha sakal mitai; aisa owsar na
mile, durlabh nar tan pai
Always partake in
satsangs and remove all worldly obstacles; you may not have this opportunity
again, as human birth is difficult to obtain
6. hoi rahe jab das yaha, tab sukh pawai ant; dekh riti
prahalad ki, nirkho sab men kant
Be a humble servant
of God and you'll gain happiness; note the devotion of Prahalad and, like him, see God in
everyone's heart
7. mitha sab se boliye, sukh upje chahu or; basikaran yaha
mantra hai, tajiye bachan kathor
Speak sweetly with
everyone and happiness will spring up all around; it is the charm which wins
the hearts of others; give up harsh words
8. mano sab kuchh sanch hai, jo jako vyowhar; janam maran dou
bana, thir hvai dekhu vichar
Accept as truth what
people do in their particular circumstances; you accept birth and death as
truth; think this over carefully
9. jhagra nitahi barayiye, jhagra buri balai; dukh upje
chinta dahe, jhagra men ghar jai
Always avoid quarrel
as it produces evil consequences; it creates suffering, consumes you with
worries, and destroys your home
10. gam saman bhojan nahin, jo koi gam ko khai; ambarish gam
khayiya, durvasa bilalai
No food is equal to
grief if you know how to swallow it; the sage Ambarish swallowed his grief, and
Durvasa was humbled
11. tamas pi sital bhaya, phir kachhu rahi na pyas;
bhrigumuni mare lat so, prabhu pad gahi jimi das
Drink (subdue) anger
and be at peace; no mental turmoil will remain; Bhrigumuni kicked Lord Vishnu
who, as a servant, massaged his foot with love
12. apne apne dharm men, sab dridh hvai sab kal; nij dharm jo
apan gaho, sahaje bhayo nihal
Always be strong and
steadfast in your religion; if you sincerely follow your religion, your life
will be easy and pleasantly rewarding
13. tyag ju aisa kijiye, sab kuchh ekai bar; sab prabhu ka mera
nahin, nischai kiya bichar
Renounce in such a
way that all are renounced at once; realize that everything is God's and
"not mine"; this is perfect thinking
14. chhoda jab abhiman ko, sukhi bhaya tab jiw; bhawai koi
kachhu kahai, mere hiya nij piw
When you abandon
pride your life becomes happy; no matter what others say of you, you realize
that Goddwells in your heart
15. sukh pawai guru dhyan te, thir bhaya man mor; nirkho apa
saban men, kewal nand kishor
Meditation on God
rewards you with bliss and a tranquil mind; see yourself in all beings and in
all beings see only God
16. dekho sabmen ram hai, ekahi ras bharpur; jaise ukh te sab
bana, chini sakkar gur
See God in all
beings; as one essence He is present in all forms; its like sugarcane which produces
refined and raw sugar and molasses
17. bharm mita tab janiye, achraj lagai na koi; yaha lila ram
ki, nirkho apa khoi
Know that doubts are
removed when you are surprised by nothing; its all the Lord's play; realize it
by merging in Him
18. lakhiye apne rup ko, thir bhaya sab ang; kahan sunan
kachhu na rahi, jyon ka tyon hai sang
Realize your own
form and every part of you will be steadfast; no preaching or listening
remains, as God and the soul are the same
19. suniye gun ki varta, owgun lije nahin; hans chhir ko
gahat hai, nir tyagiso jahin
Listen to the good
qualities of others, shunning their evils; do as the fabled swan that drinks
nutritious milk, avoiding non-nutritious water
20. sadhe indriya prabal ko, jihite uthe upadh; man raja
bahakawate, pancho bade asadh
Control the
all-powerful senses, the cause of all problems; the five senses are unruly and
cunningly fool the controlling mind
21. maro asa sampani, jin dasiya sansar; taki owshadhi tosh
hai, yaha guru mantra bichar
Kill the snake of
desire which has bitten the whole world; contentment is the curing antidote;
carefully think on this great mantra
22. bhunkhe ko kachhu dijiye, yatha shakti jo hoi; ta upar
shital bachan, lakhow atma soi
Give some food to
the hungry according to your ability; then speak to him sweetly recognizing
his soul as your own
23. punya bada upkar hai, sabke upar bhakh; jiw daya chit
rakhiye, ved puran hai sakh
The welfare of
others is your greatest duty, the highest of all virtues; have mercy for all
beings even as taught in the vedas and puranas
24. hinsa hin bad pap hai, tihi saman nahi koi, lekha mange
dharmrai jab, tab sab nowbat hoi
Violence is the
greatest evil, unmatched by others; when Dharamrai checks the record, the
violent will receive the severest punishment
25. khushboi jaski bhali, phail rahi chahu or; maliyagiri
sugandh hai, pragat sabai jag shor
The fragrance of
fame is the best as it spreads all around; the Malyagiri mountain's fame is
widespread for its sandalwood fragrance
26. apyash men durgandh hai, niko lagai na koi; jaise mal ke
nika tmen, baithi sakai na koi
Disgrace has a very
bad smell, and no one likes it; its like the smell of feces where nobody likes
to sit
27. dhir buddhi tab janiye, samujahi ki rit; unke owgun apme,
kabahun na lawai mit
Know him to be
patient and wise who understands, and is not disturbed by, people's ways; their
evil ways do not affect him
28. man thahara tab janiye, ansujh sabai sujhai; jyon
andhiyar bhavan men, dipak bari dekhai
Know the steadfast mind
when it knows previously unknown things; its like a lamp in the dark room; it
makes everything visible
29. howai honi hoi so, honhar so hoi; ramchandra ban ko gaye,
sukh achhat dukh hoi
29. What is destined
to happen will happen, and cannot be stopped; Ramchandra, banished to the
forest, endured suffering instead of comfort
30. jo yaha tattva bichar ke, rakhe hiya men soi; so prani
sukh ko lahai, dukh na darsai koi
He who carefully
considers Reality and keeps it in his heart, will enjoy eternal bliss, and gain
freedom from all sorrows
